Police are calling upon young families in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse to get involved with the Neighbourhood Watch (NHW).
This comes as four NHW volunteers in the South and Vale local police area (LPA) received awards for recognition of their voluntary work and involvement while the scheme, which has approximately 170,000 coordinators, has recently been awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award.
Ray Woodyear, from West Hanney, Peter Reader and Bruce Brown, from Henley, and John Allum, from Didcot were nominated by Carol Rudd, Police, NHW & Community Messaging Co-ordinator for the South and Vale LPA.
“NHW is extremely important to us, our local communities are our eyes and ears and it is them who enable us to continue reducing crime,” said Supt Andy Boyd, local area commander for South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse. “We want to encourage more local residents to get involved with this tremendous scheme as, quite simply, the more people who get involved and work with us, the more successful we can be in maintaining our area as one of the safest places to live in the country.”
Carol Rudd added: “We would like to encourage younger families to be involved to help create safer communities for their children.”
