Coley Factfile

Coley is bounded by Bath Road to the North, the Kennet and Avon Canal to the South, the A329 and the River Kennet to the East and the Railway to the West.  It is one of the oldest areas of Reading which grew up around the original Coley Manor House that was an important property locally until the mid to late 19th Century.  The building remains and is now used as a private hospital; its drive is now Coley Avenue and one of the original gatehouses remains in the corner or the Register Office site on Bath Road.

The area comprises a rich cultural and ethnic mix, encompassing both social and private housing.

An important part of the area comprises the Coley High Rise at the bottom of Wensley Road which dominates the skyline of the area.

Residents of Coley are very fortunate to have a larger than average amount of green space in the form of Coley Park (with a modern children's play area) on Wensley Road, Courage Park off Edenham Crescent, and greens and courtyards within the Berkeley Courts area.

The area has two schools: Coley Primary in Wolsey Street and
St. Mary and All Saints C of E (Voluntary Aided) Primary School in Wensley Road.
