Community Speedwatch - 2011

Speeding was identified as a major concern and a number of roads were selected for a ‘Speed Watch’ exercise. The roads selected were:

► Wensley Road                             ►  Lesford Road

►  Coley Avenue                             ►  Holybrook Road 

The NAG members and Thames Valley Police (TVP) check the speeds of passing cars with a handheld speedgun. Where the speed limit is exceeded educational information will be sent to the offender. TVP will consider further action for serial speeders.

Three Community Speedwatch events have taken place in Coley during November 2010 involving the NAG; 9 letters have been issued to offenders. Another session took place on 4th February  2011where one person was caught on their mobile phone.

The portable SID unit has also been taken out into the community. Data captured is shown below:

12 May 2011 - Wensley Rd in the 30mph zone opposite the pub for 1/2 hr from 11:37am
Number of cars captured:  59
Top speed:  37
Number of cars over limit when first captured: 9
Number of cars over limit when lst captured: 4

7 June 2011 - Wensley Rd in the 20mph zone outside the school for 50 minutes from 11:09am
Number of cars captured:   83
Top speed:  31
Number of cars over the limit when first captured: 21
Number of cars over the limit when last captured: 16

20mph Bin Stickers were given to households in Wensley Road. This will remind drivers of the speed limit in the road every time the bins are put our for collections.
